Rhodes Engineering Overview

Rhodes Engineering, located in Pleasanton, CA, near San Francisco is owned and operated by Dr. Mark A. Rhodes.  Established in 1992, Rhodes Engineering provides engineering consulting services. While we specialize in electrical matters, many cases involve a multidisciplinary approach. It is not uncommon for our analysis to include aspects of physics, mechanical engineering, material science, and human factors. Most of our clients are attorneys with open litigations related to incidents that resulted in property damage, injury, or death. We also work with insurance adjusters interested in evaluating claims with technical engineering aspects that are pre-litigation. A third dimension of our clientele involves patents disputes and related aspects of Intellectual Property.

Shocks, arcs,  electrical injury, and electrocution

It is no mystery that people can be injured or killed by electric shock. However, in actual shock incidents, the exact cause and nature of the shock can be very unobvious. Sometimes, there is no shock. Rather, the person involved is injured by radiant heat from an arc. Whatever, the situation, Rhodes Engineering will sort out the exact cause and nature of the injury or damage in your case.

Taser and Stun-gun

An evolving practice area is cases related to TASERS and other stun-guns. These devices are being used in ever increasing numbers by police departments across the country. TASERS and stun-guns are also used by criminals. We have worked on both civil and criminal cases involving the use of these devices. As the use of TASER type devices increases, so have the number of deaths and injuries that have occured coincident with TASER application. Whether the TASER is a direct or contributing cause of these deaths and injuries remains an extremely controversial subject. Due to our involvement in ongoing Taser related cases, we are currently only accepting plaintiff-side cases (against manufacturers or government agencies using stun guns) in this practice area.

Utility caused forest fires

Forest fires have many causes. Two common causes are both electrical in nature: lightning and power utility equipment. Agencies such as CAL Fire and the US Department of Justice often try to recover the cost of fighting these fires when there is liability attributable to utility companies and other entities. Rhodes Engineering has worked on forest fire case involving downed power lines, exploding transformers, and other electrical causes.
